Hydrilla Spotted in Commodore Point Parking Lot Without Required Hangtag
By Contributing Writer Thom de Plume
In an audacious display of the resilience and pervasiveness of its species, the invasive plant Hydrilla has overtaken several parking spaces in the Commodore Point parking lot. Sources confirmed no Brandermill resident parking hangtag was visible.
"I was out for my morning walk, peeking in cars and looking for hangtag violations, when I came across Hydrilla occupying several of our community parking spaces," reported Riverbirch Trace resident Henry Meddlestone. "Taking parking spaces from our residents is a pretty bold move, even for an invasive species."
Hydrilla took up residence in Chesterfield County around a decade ago and has been spreading like wildfire ever since. There are some Brandermill residents who believe Hydrilla-sympathetic Woodlake residents have been involved in quietly fostering its growth throughout the Swift Creek area, but these claims have not been confirmed.
Despite the fact that it has been creeping into our community for over a decade, Hydrilla has not applied for a Brandermill resident parking hangtag, a spokesperson for the BCA confirmed on Thursday. "Hydrilla needs to go through the proper channels like any other resident.”
In addition to the sighting at Commodore Point, there have been unsubstantiated reports that Hydrilla has been in negotiations with The Boathouse owners to develop a timeshare parking scheme for the lot at Sunday Park. Management from The Boathouse could not be reached for comment.
BCA sources close to the matter shared that the association is in talks with Chesterfield County Police Department on these latest developments. "All options are on the table, including deputizing the sterile carp," this confidential source reported.
The Beacon will continue to share updates as they become available. In the meantime, residents are asked to report all Hydrilla trespass sightings to the BCA. Sightings on the 9th fairway should be directed to Country Club management.
