‘Brandsplaining’ Prevalent on Brandermill Facebook Groups

“Brandsplaining” has become increasingly prevalent on Brandermill Facebook groups, sources report.

Though the definition of Brandsplaining is somewhat loose, it can be described as confidently explaining information to another Brandermill resident who likely already has an understanding of said information. Brandsplaining often intertwines accurate and inaccurate information, and is most commonly committed by men.

Brandsplaining is usually unsolicited, and the tone is often condescending or patronizing. Common topics include home improvement, landscaping, and automotive repair.

A quintessential example of Brandsplaining occurred last week when resident Holly Lawnlover posted to Brandermill Families inquiring about lawn care providers in the area. Resident Bob Knowitall commented with a three paragraph response on turf establishment and maintenance that meandered into small engine repair and neighborhood mailbox guidelines. At press time, Holly had yet to receive a single on-topic response to her original post.

What's the best way to combat Brandsplaining? "Report any instances of Brandsplaining to your moderators and we'll review and potentially remove the post," says Brandermill Families moderator Jack Stickler. "If you see something, say something."
